Dr. Asa T. Briggs is a doctoral-prepared psychiatric nurse practitioner, nationally recognized mental health expert, and owner of Briggs Psychiatry & Behavioral Health, where he works to expand access to care and help leaders, organizations, and communities better understand the role mental wellness plays in performance, resilience, and long-term sustainability.

He began his career as a psychiatric practitioner at Unity Health Care, Inc., the largest Federally Qualified Health Center in the District of Columbia. For seven years, he served as Discipline Director of Psychiatry, providing leadership in quality improvement and best practice guidelines.

Originally from South Carolina, Dr. Briggs has advised both profit and not-for-profit organizations, helping them build greater capacity to address the shortage of local and global resources needed to appropriately care for vulnerable populations experiencing mental health challenges.

His work bridges clinical expertise, executive insight, and real-world application to deliver powerful, actionable conversations around mental wellness, leadership, and resilience.

Dr. Briggs has also been involved in mental health advocacy at the state, local, and federal levels. He contributed insight to President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Initiative, helping shape conversations around how to prepare students of color emotionally and mentally for the difficulties they face in educational spaces.

In 2022, he opened Briggs Psychiatry & Behavioral Health in Greenville, South Carolina, to serve individuals facing mental health challenges in low-resource communities. He has also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor and mental health faculty scholar at his alma mater, Clemson University.

Through his work as a clinician, educator, speaker, and strategist, Dr. Briggs continues to challenge organizations and communities to see mental health not as an afterthought, but as a critical foundation for healing, leadership, and transformation.
