Black Nurses Week®

Built with intention. Grounded in legacy.

Black Nurses Week was not created at random. It was built from experience, shaped by purpose, and rooted in a legacy that continues to define the impact of Black nurses in this profession.

Why These Dates Matter

Black Nurses Week is intentionally celebrated July 26 through August 1 to honor Mary Eliza Mahoney, the first Black nurse to graduate from a professional nursing program in the United States on August 1, 1879.

Our Mission

To empower and protect Black nurses by building a thriving, connected community that advances professional excellence, collective influence, and lasting impact.

The Vision

A unified and connected Black nursing community that protects and supports Black nurses in navigating complex healthcare environments while practicing, leading, and thriving without compromise to identity or authenticity.

INSIDE BLACK NURSES WEEK

Support that goes beyond the surface.

WHAT OUR COMMUNITY SAYS

I came here unsure, kind of nervous trying to figure out if this is where I needed to be. This is where I needed to be, this is probably where you needed to be. If you weren't here this year, you missed out. Don't miss out next year.

Dr. Natacha S., DNP

The entire event was extraordinary with great speakers, diverse content, and key interactions with individuals walking in their purpose.

Feleicia Brown, MSN

I have never been to a conference like this. I was skeptical at first, but it was great....more than I expected. I am happy that I came. I learned a lot.

Karen W., RN
Founder’s Story

Born from truth. Built for impact.

Black Nurses Week was born from a moment that demanded more. More truth. More visibility. More accountability. More space for Black nurses to be supported and seen.

What started as a response has grown into a national movement, creating opportunities for connection, education, advocacy, and legacy.
