Becoming a Charter Supporter means standing with a national campaign that both honors the powerful contributions of Black nurses throughout history and inspires the next generation of Black nurses to lead and innovate. Charter Supporters help make Black Nurses Week more visible by endorsing the initiative, amplifying its message, and committing to at least one activation during the week. 

No. In this initial phase, becoming a Charter Supporter is about visibility and engagement, not financial commitment. As the movement grows, there will be opportunities for schools, hospitals, and organizations to deepen their support through sponsorships, scholarships, and expanded programming.

An activation can be any activity that recognizes and uplifts Black nurses during July 26–August 1. Examples include: a recognition ceremony, a continuing education (CE) session, a panel on Black nursing history, or a community health screening.

Your institution will be listed as a Charter Supporter on the Black Nurses Week campaign materials, highlighted on BNW’s platforms, and included in the national Impact Report shared with policymakers, healthcare leaders, and the community.

We provide a proclamation request template that can be submitted to your mayor’s or governor’s office. Once approved, we encourage you to share the signed proclamation and a photo so we can amplify it nationally and include it in the Impact Report.

For centuries, Black nurses have carried the weight of healthcare — leading through pandemics, filling critical workforce gaps, and serving communities often left behind. They have advanced equity, delivered culturally responsive care, and shaped the profession through resilience and innovation. Yet their contributions have too often been overlooked in the broader narrative of healthcare. Recognizing Black Nurses Week ensures this legacy is honored, their impact is visible, and future generations are inspired to step forward as leaders in nursing and health equity.
