"The system wasn't built for us, but this moment is."

A Historic Moment for Black Nurses in Houston

Black Nurses Week® is leading a national recognition initiative to secure official proclamations and resolutions recognizing July 26–August 1 as Black Nurses Week across the United States. The City of Houston has officially recognized Black Nurses Week®, marking an important milestone in this national effort to ensure the contributions, legacy, and impact of Black nurses are formally acknowledged and preserved. We invite Black nurses, nursing students, retired nurses, healthcare professionals, supporters, and community members to join Tauqilla Manning, Founder of Black Nurses Week® and the leader driving this national recognition initiative, as she accepts the City of Houston's official Black Nurses Week® proclamation on behalf of Black nurses throughout Houston and the surrounding areas.

What Is A Proclamation?

A proclamation is an official statement issued by a government official or governing body that formally recognizes the significance, contributions, and impact of a person, group, cause, or observance.

While proclamations do not create law, they serve as an important public acknowledgment and become part of the historical record.

Why This Matters

This proclamation is more than a ceremonial document. It is public acknowledgment of the generations of Black nurses who have cared for communities, advanced the profession, advocated for equity, and shaped the future of healthcare throughout Houston and beyond.

The proclamation ceremony itself is brief, but the significance of this recognition will extend far beyond that moment.

Who Should Attend
