Monica Elston Carter is a Maryland-native, award-winning Family Nurse Practitioner working in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Washington, DC. For fifteen years, Monica has worked in women’s health, focusing on health promotion, disease prevention and improving black maternal morbidity and mortality statistics in the district. She has achieved this through her work at the bedside, as well as her involvement on the DC Perinatal Quality Collaborative Alliance for Innovative Medicine, where she serves in a DC-wide appointed position to help standardized maternal care across Washington, DC. Monica, a Hampton University and Georgetown University alumna is also the lead instructor and creator of The Compensation Course - A 21st century guide to helping Nurse Practitioners negotiate their dream job!  Since its launch, students of The Compensation Course have brought in over 3.5 million dollars in negotiated employment contracts. Monica, a master negotiator, has coached hundreds of new graduate and experienced NPs in contract negotiation, salary negotiation, transition to practice and re-negotiation, and influenced thousands. Through strategies taught at her public speaking events as well as The Compensation Course, The Compensation Bootcamp, masterclasses and challenges, such as the annual “Ask for a Raise” challenge - Monica is on a mission to ensure every NP knows how to ask for what they want - and get it! When Monica isn’t seeing patients in the office or teaching Nurse Practitioners how to negotiate, you can find her in mommy mode alongside her husband, Ben, to their five year-old triplet daughters.
